The weather is holding out a bit longer but the gray sky above the house isn’t promising. We’ve got home improvements to do and gardening prep to absolutely get done today. Winter is coming!
There’s no time for research & writing today, I’ve got other work to do… For starters, replacing a defective upstairs window. We’ve put it off long enough. When you open the existing window the very heavy bottom half falls out. It’s not too user friendly on hot summer days.
Dean’s on the crazy crew, three stacks of scaffolding…. I’m working from the inside.
There, that’s better.
Now on to the garden bed building for Thing 1’s horticultural/botany project. She has her garden all planned out. From her 5 raised beds, to potato tire stacks, container blueberries, a new strawberry bed, a second compost bin and the green house space. Next project is to recover the greenhouse with plastic & fix the fence.
Then to address the annual run off from snow melt that inundates our foundation.
Lil Mister was a big help today. He shoveled out the ditch right beside me then helped fill it back in.
Whew, I’m tired. It’s time for some R&R, oh wait, I need to go grocery shopping for the next two weeks. Oy. And then cook dinner.
Ok, food is bought, dinner is cooked and I am off duty. Good night folks!
When we have down time we work on the Boss’s cabin. So far we’ve got a couple weeks in of partial days between life in general and snow removal.
A late season build, a timber frame carport. Got as far as the rafters set before the snow put a halt to the roof going on. Waiting for a dry clear day to finish it off.
12′ x 21′ carport.
Setting the piers in place Posts up Now for the beams… Too heavy Bring the mini in to set the beams Rafters almost done. King posts and cross supports. Rafter cap up. One more side to go.

So we got to the job site Monday morning to clean up and get the orders to do window & corner trim. So back to the mill for some trim boards and off to work we go again.
Gotta admit it looks better with a little trim.
Now that we’re really done… I hope… It’s off to moose hunting camp.

Friday was our ninth day and, except for cleanup and hauling off the tool trailer, we’re finished. Insulated, vapor barrier, accoustical sealant, and installed door and lock set. Short day and now we’re off to the cabin.
The forecast for this week wasn’t good, rain moving in. Yesterday I said let’s pray for rain to hold off tomorrow so we can get this roof done. It didn’t rain today.

Days.
Today we made 6,731 trips up the ladder to install all the purloins and fascia. Metal goes on tomorrow if the rain holds off.
Yesterday’s field trip was amazing! I have a ton of pictures to sort through in order to make a blog post. But all fun times end and it’s back to work!
Today we finished standing trusses. Put the lookouts up. Cut truss tails, installed bird blocking. House wrapped the front gable and picked up a few more supplies for putting the metal roof on next week.
I think we made 8,000 trips up and down the ladders.
Like this week, next week will be a day short, this time for the holiday.
